FAMILY BUSINESS TERVOLAN SAHA JA HÖYLÄÄMÖ OY

Our company, based in Tervola, has specialised in wood processing since 1956 and was founded by Mauno Vuokila. In August 2026, we announced a generational handover, whereby ownership of the Tervolan Saha ja Höyläämö Oy group passed from the entrepreneurial couple Lea and Juha Kokkonen to their six children, Juho-Heikki, Samuli, Henri and Mikael Kokkonen, as well as Saara-Kaisa Parkkinen and Elina Alamäki. The sawmill business has now passed into its third generation. The forestry machinery company, Metsä Kokkonen Oy, has also passed to the second generation, with Hannu-Pekka Kokkonen continuing as its owner. The former owners, Lea and Juha, will remain involved in the companies’ operations for a while longer, sharing their decades of experience and expertise.

Family entrepreneurship is a prominent feature of our company’s day-to-day operations. Shared values and traditions are passed down from one generation to the next. Our operations are reliable, sustainable and innovative. In 2023, we completed the largest investment in our history, which included a complete set of new equipment: a sawing machine, a saw feed system, a debarking machine, a 30-bay fresh timber sorting and stacking facility, and a production control system. The equipment was installed in a new hall covering just over 3,000 m². As a result, we have been able to increase our sawing capacity.

Thanks to this investment, we are able to make even more efficient use of every part of each tree. Step by step, we are investing across the entire sawmill site and modernising our equipment, which will enable us to grow and develop.

Our group employs around 28 people.
